MFCC together with the representatives from Forest Department and Myanma Timber Enterprise had a short field trip to Gangaw Extraction Agency in order to describe the harvesting operations with PEFC, EU importers and Myanmar Exporters.
The main objectives of this trip are to checking information about the current Pilot project selected area for Certified forest by MFCC-PEFC project (supported by Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation) and strengthening long term Export of Myanmar Teak wood extracted from Sustainable Forest to EU companies.
During the trip, FD and MTE representatives explained the harvesting procedures and show the actual log extraction by using elephants. (Elephant skidding method is one of the best extraction methods by MTE for reducing environmental impact and damage)
Additionally, Representatives of the PEFC informed the advantages of buying the logs from the Certified Forest area under the MTLAS system and getting PEFC COC for Mill operations to EU and Myanmar timber traders/exporters.
