ITTO and MFCC signed the contract for the project on “ Strengthening SFM Standards and Timber Legality Framework in Myanmar” which is scheduled to commence on 1st FEB 2021 for two years. The project is funded by the Forestry Agency of Japan.
The project will enhance and strengthen sustainable forest management standards, national certification system of forest management and the Chain of custody in Myanmar.
The project is designed to make MTLAS certificate more functional and to expand wider acceptance by the market and to develop the certified forest by PEFC. MFCC is currently doing necessary steps to get MFCS endorsed by PEFC. In addition, MFCC and PEFC are discussing the synergy platform to meet the project outcome.
Another important element of the project is to support the DTTS ( Digitalized Timber Tracking System ) which will ensure traceability. Myanma Timber Enterprise (MTE) has already initialized the QR code system. The project will support the QR code system so that the current level of Access to Information will be promoted to the level of ensuring the robust Chain of Custody along the steps of the supply chain.
The project will be administered by the project steering committee which will be organized by the relevant and competent representatives from different sectors.
