MFCC updates for the stakeholders webinar

The webinar has been attended by the range of participants and representatives including Chairman of the MFCC (Permanent Secretary of the MONREC) , Director General and Senior Officers from Myanmar Forest Department, Managing Director and Senior Officers from Myanmar Timber Enterprise, Representatives from Environmental Conservation Department and Dry Zone Department , Secretary General/CEO of PEFC and its members, CSO, Certification Bodies, MSG members as well as international stakeholders, INGOs, NGOs and private sectors.

Myanmar Forest Certification Committee (MFCC) recently collaborated with Programme for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) on a three-year project to support the Myanmar as it transitions to the sustainable management of its forests. The project was co-funded by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

“Without the kind contribution of this project, MFCC would not have possessed such major achievement. At the same time, MFCC has to keep the momentum for the further development so as the primary objectives of MFCC are met in the area of legal supply chain of timber and SFM certification“ said Khin Maung Yi, Chairman of the MFCC.

Since the beginning of the joint project, MFCC has established a multi-stakeholder platform to facilitate coordination, exchange and share experiences amongst forest sector actors.

“Myanmar has demonstrated a very good commitment to the Sustainable Forest Management in the last few years, not only in the project but also in the development of the international scheme, and PEFC looks forward to the continued cooperation and collaboration with MFCC” said Ben Gunneberg, Secretary General/CEO of PEFC.

In this webinar, MFCC technical team explained the recent updates and progress about the MFCC and the presentation was led by the CEO of the MFCC-PEFC project. “Without the support from the PEFC and Prince Albert II of Monaco foundation, we (MFCC) cannot be here right now, it is not the end but just the beginning of the MFCS” said Win Hlaing, CEO of MFCC-PEFC Project.

Secondly, Barber Cho, Secretary of the MFCC explained the road map (way-forward) for the MFCC and the MFCC ground situation. And Richard Laity (PEFC South East Asia Coordinator) explained how he plans to utilize the PEFC framework to support Myanmar Forest Certification Scheme including better stakeholder coordination.

Moreover, a range of participants took part in the discussion Q&A sessions, including CBs about their certification and ISO accreditation process as well as the other general discussions from international stakeholders.
